Nature: Traffic/TransportationAcdntALS
Address: John J Williams Hwy & Gull Point Road, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Wednesday afternoon, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway nearing Gull Point Road. It appears that a silver Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway and left the shoulder of the roadway for some unknown reason. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (SCEOC) alerted the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2); the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware Department of Transportation .
The vehicle struck a utility pole and continued traveling eastbound, overturning and ejecting the occupant of the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest on top of the occupant of the vehicle. The debris from the Chevrolet Tahoe rear tire(s) struck an additional vehicle traveling on John J. Williams Highway as well.
Chief Steven Deery requested that Rescue 80 prepare to assist with patient extrication. Apparently, a nearby neighbor was able to bring a jack to lift the vehicle off of the trapped person. This allowed for the immediate extrication and permitted the local emergency medical response personnel to assess and package the patient for transportation to nearby medical facilities.
The Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware Transportation coordinate the traffic detour patterns and road closure for the duration of the incident.
