Scholarship program aims to attract and retain volunteer firefighters at Indian River Volunteer Fire Co., Inc. Volunteer Firefighter & EMS Scholarship Program Indian River’s Volunteer Firefighter & EMS Scholarship Program is intended as part of a special project undertaken by the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company to support retention of the junior and future active membership in the volunteer fire company and to increase public awareness of the acute need to support and retain volunteer firefighters in our fire district. Indian River’s Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship Program is designed to provide recognition for this important group of dedicated community servants who are part of our volunteer fire company serving the Oak Orchard, Riverdale, and Long Neck, Warwick, and Indian Mission communities. The volunteer fire company expects not only to continue the program on an annual basis, but to increase the total amount allocated to scholarships in the future. The volunteer fire company also hopes to expand the scholarship program to include volunteer emergency medical technicians (EMS) serving our communities that fulfill the membership criteria and scholarship initiatives at Indian River. Scholarships are eligible to cover tuition, fees and books for junior and/or active volunteer firefighters. In exchange for receiving a scholarship, firefighters (students) must pledge volunteer service in the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company. The volunteer fire company desires to expand the scholarship program and solicit corporate and community entity contributions via annual pledges to fund this initiative.
