Nature: Outside Fire (Upgraded to a Woods Fire)

On Monday afternoon, May 31st at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire in the vicinity of 32815 Captains Way, Captains Grant off of Oak Orchard Road.
Fire Police Officer Jim Becker arrived on scene and immediately advised 80 Command that this was an active woods fire and had encompassed an area approximately 40 x 40 square feet and growing deeper into the woods with potential exposures to a residential structure, storage sheds, etc. Second Assistant Chief Hayden Klingler requested that this incident be upgraded to an active woods fire.
Brush 80-00 arrived on-scene and quickly activated the forestry booster line to isolate the exposure concerns as well as hampering the spread further into the wooded area from the northern end of the fire. Brush 80-0 was assigned to southern end of the fire with the specific task to knock down the advancement of the fire as well as area saturation to ensure extinguishment.
Tanker 80 was assigned to water supply for 80-00; Engine #80-2 was assigned to initiate a 1¾” fire suppression line to assist Brush #80-0 as well as water supply to that unit. Engine #80-3 was assigned to provide manpower and assist with the incident overhaul.
The incident was quickly placed under control and crews remained on-scene to address complete extinguishment.
