Nature: Vessel (Boat) Fire
Location: In the Area of Massey’s Landing

On Sunday afternoon, May 30th at approximately 2:27 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the United States Coast Guard (Indian River Inlet), and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC), Fish & Wildlife, Marine Police were alerted for a vessel fire in the area of Massey’s Landing.
It was later reported that more definitely location would be between the mouth of Massey’s Ditch and the entrance to the Pot Nets Seaside waterway entrance. It was identified that a white cabin cruiser type vessel had caught fire.
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded with two marine units to Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp, as well as Engine #80-3; Engine #80-5 was assigned to stage near Massey’s Landing on Long Neck Road; and Engine #80-1 was assigned to respond to Pot Nets Seaside Community Store. 80 Command established operations at the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp.
It was identified that DNREC would be attempting to tow the disabled vessel to the Massey’s Landing. Engine #80-1 was able to identify a visual during the initial incident location and witnessed DNREC towing to the mouth of the Massey’s Ditch.
The entire tow operations was coordinated and performed by the DNREC Fish & Wildlife Marine Police and witnessed by the United States Coast Guard.
Once the vessel was safely docked at the public boat ramp, all Indian River responding apparatus were released.
DNREC and the US Coast Guard may continue their investigation.
