Story
Monday, May 17, 2010 @ 19:00 Nature: Delaware Volunteer Firefighters’ Association Government Affairs Committee Location: Indian River Vol. Fire Co., Inc. – Meeting Room Address: 32628 Oak Orchard Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Monday evening, May 17th, the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters’ Association and the Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association collaborated and hosted the Delaware General Assembly Delegation from Sussex County as well as the Sussex County Councilmatic Members for a discussion forum to highlight the benefits of the Delaware Volunteer Fire Services in and for Sussex County. The primary objective of the meeting was to highlight the operating purpose of the volunteer fire companies; to introduce your local elected officials with your local volunteer fire company president and chief; to identify specific operating criteria of the volunteer fire company (i.e., ladder truck operations, engine company operations, rescue company operations, EMS operations, etc.). The presentations were a joint effort fostered by State Representative Biff Lee, Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association First Vice President William Tobin; Sussex County Volunteer Fire Chief’s Association President Terry Jester, and Indian River Volunteer Fire Company President Patrick Miller. Each Sussex County Volunteer Fire Company was asked to send two representatives (President and Chief or designees) to the meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres for the meeting. The event was widely accepted as an opportunity to open productive dialogue with our elected officials.
