Sunday May, 9 2010 Nature: Residential Townhouse Fire Address: West Newport Pike, Stanton, Delaware On Saturday, May 8th, an engine crew from Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was assigned to stand-by at Mill Creek Fire Company (MCFC) to provide coverage for their respective fire district. Engine #80-3 traveled to New Castle County around 1 p.m. on Saturday (05/08/10) and returned at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday (05/09/10). The specific incidents during the standby were (1) wires down on Upper Pike Creek Road at Brandt Avenue; and (2) reporting working residential structure fire on West Newport Pike. At approximately midnight on Saturday, May 8th, the stand-by was preparing to end its specific assignment and return to Sussex County when Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched for a working alarm. Engine #80-3 was asked to respond with box alarm along with fire companies for Five Points, Cranston Heights, Belvedere, Mill Creek and New Castle County Emergency Medical Services. Engine #80-3 arrived immediately after the Duty Officer and Chief from Mill Creek Fire Company. The Chief ordered this assignment to be an exterior attack only and Engine #80-3 activated three 1 ½ hand lines to assist with an aggressive fire suppression attack to the residential structure. The Delaware State Fire Marshal Office is investigating the incident. Pursuant to the information via the News-Journal, this incident has been determined to be an act of arson. Newport Pike in Stanton early Sunday. Firefighters arriving just after midnight found the house fully involved. Six fire companies helped extinguish the blaze. Several firefighters were treated at the scene for burns. It took more than an hour to control the blaze. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
