An afternoon fire Tuesday in Millsboro was caused by an overheated electrical cord, state fire officials said today.
The fire was reported about 4:10 p.m. in the 27000 block of Oak Grove Lane.
When firefighters from Millsboro and Indian River arrived, they encountered heavy fire, Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Randall Lee said.
The two occupants in the home escaped without injury.
Lee said the home was not equipped with working smoke detectors.
An investigation determined that the fire originated in a bedroom and was caused by an overheated appliance cord, Lee said.
Damage was estimated at $13,000.
The Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula is assisting the family.
