Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1

Location: Savages Ditch Rd and Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971

 

On Monday evening, June 25th, the Indian River (80) and Bethany Beach (70) fire companies were alerted to assist the Rehoboth Beach (86) fire company with a water rescue incident involving two overdue kayakers.  It was reported that an 50 year old female and an 11 year old were overdue in the Rehoboth Bay near Savage’s Ditch.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80-0 and 80 Marine 2 as well as Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.  The Delaware State Fire Police, the DNREC Fish & Wildlife Officers, the US Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet Station, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit were also alerted for this incident.

Marine units from Indian River were held at the boat launch in Massey’s Landing pending authorization to launch.  All units were cleared to return to the respective quarters.

Indian River’s Marine Units did launch for water related training and boat familiarization exercises.

The overdue kayakers were located in the Burton’s Island area.
