Saturday September, 12 2009 @ 13:11:25 Nature: Water Rescue Priority Address: 188-199 Dickinson St., Dewey Beach, DE 19971 On Saturday afternoon, September 12th, the Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and Indian River volunteer fire companies were alerted to a water rescue incident in the Rehoboth Bay off of Dewey Beach. It was reported that an aircraft had went down in the Rehoboth Bay. The Rehoboth Beach Fire Company was coordinating the incident with Bethany Beach marine units responding to the Indian River Inlet for launching, the Indian River Fire Company responding to Massey’s Landing for launching and the Rehoboth Beach units responding directly to Dewey Beach area. All marine units were required to prepare for launch pending determination of the Incident Commander from the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. The Sussex County Emergency Operation Center worked jointly with the Rehoboth Beach Emergency Operations Center and provided information to responding emergency response units. It was identified that a banner plane was reported down in the Rehoboth Beach and possibly the pilot was able to exit the aircraft and proceeded to land. All marine units were cancelled from actual launch assignments and the incident was downgraded to just the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. The Delaware State Police and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources were on-scene evaluating the incident.
