Thursday September, 3 2009 @ 21:19:12 Nature: Vehicle Fire Address: Long Neck Rd & White House near Sand Bar Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday evening, September 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported vehicle fire. Chief Steven Deery, Jr. was operating as the officer in charge and responded directly to the scene. It was confirmed that a working vehicle fire in the shopping center complex immediately beside the former Neighborhood Store. The vehicle was fully involved with potential exposures to the building. Chief Deery ordered Engine #80-3 to initiate fire suppression tactics and isolate the situation because of exposure concerns to the building. Engine #80-5 was assigned to assist the initial engine crew with the vehicle and building concerns as well as a water supply task. Engine #80-1 was assigned to coordinate concerns within the front of the shopping center complex. The incident was quickly brought under control and the assistance of the Delaware State Police and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested. The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance on Long Neck Road during the duration of the incident. The incident is pending additional investigation.
