On Saturday evening, May 12, 2018, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for multiple emergency incidents within a two-hour time span. The initial incident was for wires down on John J. Williams Highway which fell upon a vehicle causing a traffic hazard for both directions of travel. (1) Saturday May, 12 2018 @ 21:33 Nature: Wires Down/Arching Address: John J Williams Hwy and Lay Millsboro, DE 19966 Emergency response crews for Indian River included Rescue 80 and 80 Command from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, closure and traffic detour of John J. Williams Highway and overall hazard removal. While clearing this roadway hazard, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a second emergency which was an outside fire that got out of control. (2) Saturday May, 12 2018 @ 21:44 Nature: Outside Fire Address: 24242 Big Oak Lane Millsboro, DE 19966 Cross Streets: Dead End/Banks Rd This incident originated as a recreational fire that was not properly extinguished with the ciders along with the approaching wind conditions spread the ashes into the nearby brush. |
