At 3:05 a.m. on Saturday morning – May 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle incident near the intersection of John J. Williams Highway (Route #24) and Gull Point Road where a black Saturn Vue was traveling west on Route #24 and lost control while rounding a curve. The vehicle ran off the roadway striking trees and ejecting the occupant of the vehicle.
It was reported by the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center to possibly have an occupant ejection scenario. Duty Officer, Jason Faulkner assumed incident command and requested that the crew responding on Rescue 80 and Engine #80-5 coordinate scene lighting and vehicle stabilization. The Delaware State Fire Police were assigned to coordinate roadway closure measures and establish traffic re-routing techniques for the duration of the incident.
The roadways were closed for the duration of the incident to permit the Delaware State Police Fatal Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Team to investigate.
