Thursday April, 23 2009 @ 00:41:39 Nature: Structure Fire Address: 32314 Bayshore Drive, Bayshore Development, Millsboro, DE 19966 Early Thursday morning at 12:41 a.m., April 23rd, the Indian River, Millsboro and Lewes fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on 32314 Bayshore Drive in the Bayshore Development off Long Neck Road. This incident was reported with potential occupants still inside the residence. Initial arriving units identified a fire and smoke showing condition from the rear of the residential structure. Indian River’s Duty Officer – Eric Ruckle, First Assistant Chief responded to the incident and provided an immediate update of the incident to responding apparatus and determined that all occupants were out of the residential structure. Engine #80-1 was first arriving unit and immediately initiated fire suppression attack lines to knock down the fire. Other responding units were assigned to set up the ladder for ventilation and roof access with Ladder 80 and to evaluate for fire extension into residential structure. The Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company engine apparatus was assigned to assist with the search for and extinguishment of any remaining fire and provide an interior evaluation of the residence. Millsboro’s Rescue apparatus was assigned to provide stand-by coverage at Indian River’s Main Station in Oak Orchard. The Lewes Fire Department was assigned to provide stand-by coverage at Indian River’s Station #1 in Long Neck. The incident was confined to the rear of the residential structure and back porch with minor extension into the second floor of the residence as well as breaching the back rear corner of the residence into the flooring, sub-flooring and others areas. Duty Officer Ruckle placed this incident under control at 1:06 a.m. with units working until approximately 2:07 a.m. The total incident time in-service was 1 hour and 45 minutes. The incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
