Story
The members of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company are constantly required to attend training programs to fine tune their vehicle rescue and extrication skills. These trainings are held at various state, local or national facilities. Each month Indian River’s personnel obtain training on a relevant topic related to the fire and/or rescue services that are essential to our operations. During the month of March, firefighters participated in a simulated vehicle rescue training scenario. This exercise and training concept was intended to familiarize and refresh rescue responders of all levels about the essentials of vehicle extrication. This was a hands-on training initiative, where firefighters conducted operations related to scene safety, vehicle stabilization, patient extrication, accessing vehicles, providing patient care and patient packaging while promoting safety and removal of the patient from the vehicle.
