Saturday January, 17 2009 @ 14:31:14 Nature: Traffic / Transportation Accident ALS Address: 28476 Clark Ave Millsboro, DE 19966 On Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:32 p.m., Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on Clark Avenue in Riverdale. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a residence and a tree before coming to rest on its side, ejecting and trapping the vehicle’s occupant underneath the vehicle. Upon arrival of emergency response personnel, it was identified that the Dodge Ram 1500 Pick-up was traveling south on Clark Avenue, struck a residential facility destroying the front porch before colliding with a tree. The impact of the incident caused the vehicle to roll on its side, partially ejecting the driver onto the ground and allowing the vehicle to fall on top of the vehicle’s occupant. The vehicle's occupants was partially ejected through the passenger side door and window. Emergency response personnel were assigned to initiate vehicle stabilization, commence extrication and to utilize the inflatable "airbags" to raise the vehicle off the patient so the driver could be removed from the vehicle. The patient was transferred to the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – “Trooper 2” for additional evaluation and treatment prior to being transported to a trauma center in New Castle County. The Delaware State Police are investigating this incident. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company notified the various utility companies of the incident as well as Sussex County Code Enforcement Unit to verify the ability to safely reside in the residential structure. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company did return to the residential structure to assist the property owner with securing the residence from undesirable access. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident. However, the rationale for the cause of the incident is unknown at this time.
