Location:  Camp Arrowhead Road adjacent to Angola Crest II

 

On Monday afternoon, March 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Brandywood.  It was reported to be a motor vehicle accident involving a roll-over with occupant trapped. 

Actual incident location and related information was immediately upgraded to correctly identify the incident address as Camp Arrowhead Road adjacent to Angola Crest II development.  It involved a single vehicle rollover into a tree with entrapment.  This incident location was within Rehoboth Beach’s fire district and their respective Chief was notified of the dispatching error.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the Delaware State Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, Sussex County Paramedics as well as the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2). 

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, assistance with patient stabilization if needed, traffic control, establishment of a landing zone, and preparation for extrication.  Emergency medical personnel identified the need for extrication and transportation to Christiana Medical Center via the aviation unit.  Initial patient access was via rear trunk lid window before stabilization and extrication were completed.

It appears that a grey Toyota min-van as traveling on Camp Arrowhead Road and lost control for an unknown reason which resulted in the vehicle rolling over and striking trees.  The female occupant did require medical services.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic closure and scene mitigation items.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

A Lewes woman who ran off Camp Arrowhead Road March 19 has died from her injuries.

Charmla K. Capanaro, 73, was driving a 2014 Toyota Sienna at about 2 p.m. March 19 when she drove off the roadway and hit a mailbox, utility pole and several trees, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

The Sienna overturned on its side; Capanaro was removed from the vehicle and flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. On March 28, Jaffe said, Capanaro died from her injuries.
