Nature: Wires Down/Arching

Address: 30261 Mount Joy Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

Cross Streets: Virgies Ln/Cordrey Rd

Early Sunday morning, March 11th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a wires down situation as a result of a property damage vehicle accident.  It was reported that the wiring were arcing.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine 80-1 and 80 Command from the Long Neck area and Brush 80-00 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were able to verify that the arcing was a direct result of the vehicle accident and that Delaware Electric Cooperative was responding for a complete utility pole replacement.

It appears that a black four door sedan was traveling on Mount Joy Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking the utility pole and snapping it in half.  The downed utility pole and wires caused an obstruction in the roadway and a power outrage for many of the nearby residents.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

There were no reported injuries.
