During the mid-afternoon hour on Nov. 20, there was a vehicle accident on State Route #24 in the vicinity of Lewes-Rehoboth fire department’s Station #3. This incident was not in the fire response district of Indian River; however, did cause an operational traffic concern. You may view the web page for additional information of this incident (http://www.wgmd.com/200811206743/update-route-24-angola-crash-injures-3.html) At approximately 4:44 p.m., an additional vehicle accident occurred on Route #24 near the Holly Lake Campsite which resulted in a vehicle striking a telephone pole causing a power interruption and roadway closure incident between Holly Lake Road/Campsite (County Road #301) and Hollymount Road (State Route #48). Traffic detour patterns were created for this incident. Traffic was re-routed along Hollymount Road, Phillips Branch Road (County Road #302) and Indian Mission Road (State Route #5) or other secondary roadways in between. This resulted in the John J. Williams Highway being closed for an extended period of time. The cause of the accident is under investigation. At approximately 7:12 p.m., an additional vehicle accident occurred on the detour routes of Phillip Branch Road which also resulted in a vehicle striking a telephone pole causing the electrical transformer and utility pole to block the roadway surface and hampering detoured traffic from the earlier incidents. You may view the web page for additional information of this incident (http://www.wgmd.com/200811206744/second-rt-24-accident-snarling-traffic-near-long-neck.html). The incident resulted in some of the occupants being transported to nearby medical facilities. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
