Story
Wednesday October, 1 2008 @ 07:56:44 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Accident ALS Address: John J Williams Hwy & Rosedale Road Millsboro, DE On Wednesday, October 1st at approximately 7:56 a., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle incident involving multiple vehicles and potential entrapment of patients in more than one vehicle. It appears that a blue Toyota Corolla(vehicle #1) was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway (State Route #24) near the intersection of Rosedale Road (County Road # 313A) and was struck in the rear by the Gray Honda Accord vehicle #2). The blue Toyota was propelled into the eastbound traffic striking a white Ford Expedition (vehicle #3) head-on. The Ford Expedition continued traveling onto the shoulder of the roadway striking a utility pole in the vicinity of the Nanticoke Indian Musuem Elder Center. Emergency response units responding to the incident were assigned to initiate patient stabilization, implement vehicle stabilization measures and prepare for extrication of patients in the white Ford Expedition as well as performing extraction of the "B" post from the blue Toyota to ease eradication of the patient. Overall, the incident triage identified four potential patients – one Priority #1 patient, two Priority #2 patients, and one Priority #3 patient. All medivac aviation units were not available due to weather conditions. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center dispatched multiple ambulance units to provide ground transportation to nearby medical facilities. These transportation units included, but not limited to assistance from the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company and the Lewes Fire Department. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident and the John J. Williams Highway remained closed for the duration of the incident.
