Earlier morning hours of September 14, 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident just south of Beaver Dam Road on Indian Mission Road (State Route #5). It was reported that a Dodge Neon was travel south on Indian Mission Road and navigated the curve at the intersection of Beaver Dam Road and apparently left the roadway for an unknown reason.
The vehicle traveled off the northbound shoulder striking an embankment and spinning clockwise and striking a small forest of trees. The vehicle became lodged between roadway drainage culverts feeding a small stream and a large tree that is rear-ended. The occupant of the vehicle required emergency medical treatment and was transported to nearby medical facilities.
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was directed to assist with patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization and initiate remediation measures for a minor fuel leakage. The incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
