Indian River Delivers Former Command Unit to Coaling Fire Department in Coaling, Alabama. In September 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company sold its former 80 Command Unit to the Coaling Fire Department in Coaling, Alabama. Over the weekend of September 19-21, 2008, various officers of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company embarked upon a “Road Trip” to deliver the former 80 Command Unit to the Coaling Fire Department (CFD). The Coaling Fire Department will refurbish this unit for an anticipated Chief’s Vehicle to service their respective fire district. This command unit was towed via flatbed trailer (courtesy of Terry Jester, Memorial Fire Department) to Alabama. Coaling, Alabama is a rural community located on the outskirts of Tuscaloosa, Alabama approximately 50 miles west of Birmingham. Coaling has a population of approximately 1,200 residents. It was with much appreciation and hospitality that the Coaling Fire Department offered the cadre of officers from Indian River. Their officers and members were extremely appreciative of their new acquired command unit.
