Story
At approximately 5:20 a.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center advised our Duty Officer, Jason Faulkner that a person was having a medical issue on a vessel and the mariners were having difficulty in reaching Massey's Landing. Indian River firefighters as well as one Sussex County Paramedic deployed three marine rescue vessels to locate the troubled mariners and assist the United States Coast Guard. Once the mariners were located, Indian River Emergency Medical Technicians and Sussex County Paramedics began assessing the patient. The patient was transported to Massey's Landing via a rescue marine unit and transported to nearby medical facilities by the local EMS provider. In closing, the mariners became distressed in low tidal conditions as well as running out of fuel for their respective vessel. The US Coast Guard assisted the mariners and their vessel to Massey’s Landing.
