Story
Early Thursday morning of May 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident after a single vehicle was traveling south on Oak Orchard Road near the intersection of Chief's Road. The vehicle was traveling on the extended shoulder section of the roadway and struck numerous trees before coming to rest in the middle of the roadway. Our duty officer, Assistant Chief Brian Hubbs, was traveling north on Oak Orchard Road and just happened upon the incident. Second Assistant Chief Hubbs notified the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center of the incident and requested fire and EMS personnel to respond to the incident location to administer and assist with patient care as well as attempting to stabilize the incident pending further evaluation by the Delaware State Police. Emergency response personnel were assigned to assist with patient stabilization and to secure the vehicle as well as prepare of clean up the vehicle fluids. The patient was transferred to nearby medical facilities by the local EMS provider.
