Story
At 1:15 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2008, the Indian River, Lewes, and Millsboro fire companies were alerted for a reported residential structure fire on Phillips Branch Road just off Indian Mission Road. Chief Steven C Deery, Jr. arrived on scene and confirmed that a two-story wood frame farm house with heavy fire showing with concerns for extension to nearby sheds. Engine 80-3 was the first arriving fire suppression apparatus and immediately deployed a 1 3/4 inch attack line to initiate extinguishment. As additional responding apparatus began to arrive on scene, the various resources were deployed to make the best possible attack. Firefighters battled high winds of 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph during this incident which made fire suppression efforts difficult. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about an hour. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause.
