Shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire on Merchantman Drive in the development of Captain’s Grant. Upon arrival of Engine 80-1, operating under the command of Chief Steven Deery, it was determined to have a full size recreational vehicle (RV) with fire and smoke showing. The crew from Engine #1 was deployed to establish two 1 3/4 inch fire suppression lines in service and entered the RV to extinguish the fire. Additional responding apparatus and firefighters were assigned to assist the crew from Engine #1 with ventilation and overhaul operations. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin of the incident.
