On February 17, 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road near the entrance to Vera Lane. The incident involved a single vehicle that apparently was traveling southbound on the northbound shoulder near the edge of the private farmland. The vehicle sideswiped a speed limit sign on the passenger’s side of the vehicle before striking a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Responding apparatus from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was assigned to initiate pre-hospital emergency care of the vehicle’s operator prior to the arrival of emergency care response personnel and to provide vehicle stabilization efforts. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
