Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on November 21, 2007, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway at Layton Davis Road. Upon arrival of Chief Steven Deery it was determined that a single-vehicle collided with a utility pole. The vehicle was occupied with a priority patient still in the vehicle. Rescue crews were required to stabilize the vehicle, assist with extrication of the patient, removing roadway debris, and establishing a safe landing area for the Delaware State Police Aviation. The patient was flown to a Delaware medical facility. The Delaware State Police are investigating the cause.
