Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 16 White Pine Dr., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday, December 13^th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted were alerted for a structure fire on 16 White Pine Drive in the Pines of Long Neck.  It was reported to be a residential manufactured home filled with smoke after self-igniting the fireplace.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Chief 80-15 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. 

Emergency response crews were assigned incident mitigation tactics to ascertain the source.  It was immediately identified that the chimney flue was not opened properly.  All other emergency response companies were downgraded to just Indian River units.  All units were assigned to coordinated ventilation of the residential structure with natural and positive pressure strategies.

It appears that the home occupant did not properly operate the fireplace and its related components.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures.
