Early Thursday morning at approximately 3 a.m. on August 23, 2007, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported working structure fire on Heron Road in White House Beach. Captain Eric Ruckle operating as Duty Officer arrived on location and confirmed a working fire structure with exposure concerns to nearby residences and propane tanks. A fire suppression assignment was delegated to first arriving apparatus, as well as an assignment to protect the other structures. The Lewes and Millsboro fire companies assisted at the scene and the Rehoboth Beach Fire Company provided stand by coverage at our Long Neck facility. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
The occupants of the residential structure are being assisted by the American Red Cross. This incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office.
