Story
On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, shortly before 4 a.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported working structure fire. Second Assistant Chief Steven Hawkins arrived on scene and confirmed a single wide manufactured home fully involved. Engine 80-2 was assigned to initiate fire suppression tactics. Other arriving apparatus were assigned various fire suppression actions, water supply responsibilities and overhaul assignments. The Lewes and Millsboro volunteer fire companies assisted with the exterior fire suppression initiatives. The Georgetown and Milton volunteer fire companies provided stand by coverage at our Long Neck facility. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Other nearby structures was damaged by the extensive heat conditions. The incident is under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
