Early Saturday morning, May 5, 2007, at approximately 12:27 a.m., the Indian River, Lewes, and Millsboro fire companies were alerted for a reported working residential structure fire. While enroute to the incident, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center advised Chief Steven Deery that there was the possibility of two subjects trapped inside the residence. Chief Deery arrived on scene and confirmed a working structure fire; however, all occupants had safely evacuated the residence. Engine 80-2 was the first arriving fire apparatus and placed a fire suppression attack line through the front door. Additional responding fire crews were assigned to assist with the deployment of additional attack lines in service, ventilation of the roof, extensive overhaul, and securing utilities. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within an hour. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
