Early Friday morning, February 9, 2007, (approximately 6:06 a.m.), the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival of Deputy Chief Hubbs it was identified as a single wide manufactured home with heavy smoke and fire showing. The responding emergency medical service personnel were required to assess and provide pre-hospital emergency care to an injured person at this location. An aggressive fire suppression attack was initiated by the responding firefighters that prevented the spread of the flames and fire to any additional outbuildings.
It is most unfortunate that the aforementioned person would later succumb to his injuries sustained as a result of the incident.
The Lewes and Millsboro fire companies assisted Indian River Volunteer Fire Company at the incident location and Rehoboth Beach Fire Company provided stand by coverage at our Long Neck facility. Local animal control officers were requested to the respond to the location as well. The Office of the Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident. There were no additional firefighter injuries.
