On Friday, April 14, 2005, at 11:26 a.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the local Emergency Medical Services provider with a landing zone for a medivac. Upon arrival of Second Assistant Chief Jason Faulkner, it was determined that a construction worker had fallen approximately 25 feet into the basement of the residence. Furthermore, due to the house being under construction, the steps were not built. In order for the patient to be extricated from his below ground location, Indian River firefighters were required to hoist the patient up. This endeavor was led by Rescue Captain Eric Ruckle. Once the patient was extricated, he was placed aboard Delaware State Police Aviation helicopter Trooper 2 for transport to Christiana Hospitial.
Twenty-Seven firefighters were in service under the direction of Second Assistant Chief Jason Faulkner for fifty-one minutes.
