Nature: Wires Down/Arching

Location: ITAO - 32063 Oak Orchard Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday afternoon, September 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a wires down / wires arching incident on Oak Orchard Road near the entrance to River Winds (formerly Oak Orchard West).  It was reported to be a property damage vehicle accident involving a utility pole and wires down.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization where necessary, scene mitigation, notification of the proper utility company, and traffic control.

It appears that a white Dodge mini-van was traveling on Oak Orchard Road when for an unknown reason it left the roadway, struck the utility pole, and continued into nearby yards.  The utility pole snapped in half causing wires down and other low hanging wire issues.  This section of Oak Orchard Road was closed for the duration of the incident.

The occupants were transported to nearby medical facilities for observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic contract for the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
