On Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at 10:19 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a field fire. Deputy Chief Brian Hubbs arrived on location to find approximately 1 acre of woods involved and spreading into an adjacent pine forest. With the conditions deteriorating rapidly, an additional brush truck and engine was added to the assignment from the Millsboro Fire Company. Firefighters provided an aggressive initial attack on the fire, which yielded a remarkable knockdown. Extensive overhaul was needed due to the materials that were burning and the dry conditions and winds. This incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office.
Thirty firefighters were in service for 1 hour and 11 minutes.
