Nature: Vehicle Accident Possibly Serious

Location: Herring Creek Estates

22999 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, August 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway near Herring Creek Estates.  It was reported to be a two-vehicle collision with a vehicle roll-over and occupant entrapment.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional resources were alerted for this incident included Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper 2); Millsboro (83) and Rehoboth Beach (86) ambulances as well as the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, traffic control, patient stabilization, preparation for vehicle extrication, and overall scene mitigation.  Emergency response crews were required to gain access to the Ford Focus in order to free the vehicle's occupants.

The Delaware State Fire Police were requested to coordinate a complete roadway closure for the remainder of the incident.   Traffic was detoured along Holly Lake Road, Phillips Branch Road, and Hollymount Road.

It appears that a blue Ford Focus and a Toyota Camry collided whiling traveling on John J. Williams Highway.  All persons were transported to nearby medical facilities by Millsboro, Rehoboth, and the local emergency services provider.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
