Story
At 8:02 am on Saturday, July 3, we were dispatched to Route 24, John J. Williams Highway, just east of Gull Point Road for an injury MVA. On arrival, we found a Toyota Tundra pickup truck that had struck a power pole. Although the driver was not injured, she was trapped by power lines that were on top of the truck. There were power lines down across Route 24 and the poles on each side of the severed one were damaged. Conective responded and confirmed the power was off. The driver then opened the door and stepped from her truck. Even though there were no injuries, this MVA disrupted holiday weekend traffic on Route 24 for an extended period of time. DELDOT responded with arrow boards for traffic control during power line repairs. Thirty-five firefighters, under the direction of Chief Steve Hawkins, were in service for one hour and thirty-three minutes for this incident. Deputy Chief Steven Deery Jr. served as Operations Officer.
