Wednesday, April 6, 2005 At 4:23 PM, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to 32292 Bayshore Drive for a brush fire. Upon arrival, we found an area of brush on fire behind the homes. The Delaware State Police had several youths in custody in connection with this fire. While we were still on Bayshore Drive, we were dispatched to Station 83, Millsboro, to cover their Station as they were at a brush fire on Conley Road. As we arrived at Station 83, we were moved to the scene to help wet down hotspots and assist with clean up. Sometime during the fire, an unidentified Firefighter found a puppy that was barely alive and took it to the medical personnel in the Rehabilitation Area. EMTs Bonnie Mitchell and Lynn Werner, both from the Millsboro Fire Company, took charge of the puppy, now called Faith. Faith was in very poor shape with both ears and both front paws singed by the fire and she was barely breathing. Bonnie and Lynn gave Faith oxygen and let her lick water off their fingers. The SPCA was called to pick up Faith. By the time we left, Faith was in much better shape. Every time Bonnie or Lynn tried to move the oxygen mask away, Faith would crawl back into the mask and put her nose right where the oxygen came out. We were in service for a total of three hours and fourteen minutes for these two calls. |
