Story
At 8:42 PM on August 38, 2004, we were dispatched to Route 297 west of Route 304 for one of the longest extrications we have ever had. A Jeep Liberty was traveling on Route 297 when the driver lost control. The Jeep hit a tree while traveling sideways. The tree caved in the left side of the Jeep at the corner of the windshield. The Jeep came to rest on its left side. The driver was still in the car with his legs tangled around the brake pedal and the floor pan rolled around his legs. Station 83, Millsboro, assisted at the scene. Station 77, Georgetown, sent a crew with their brake pedal cutter. The actual extrication took 3 hours and 52 minutes. The driver was airlifted from the scene by Delaware State Police helicopter Trooper 2. Thirty-five Indian River firefighters were in service for four hours and forty-five minutes on this call.
