The operator of a jet ski was sent to the hospital after crashing the watercraft into another boat near the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach, according to police.

Officers with the Delaware Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police were called about 3 p.m. to the area of Dickinson Avenue in Dewey Beach for the report of a boating crash, said Lt. John McDerby, a spokesman with the department.

Dewey lifeguards assisted a jet ski operator to shore after the jet ski collided at a high rate of speed with a small boat about 20 feet long slowly making its way to the dock, McDerby said.

The person on the jet ski was then transported to Beebe Hospital for further treatment, McDerby said. The injuries appear to be minor, he added.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by police, and further details were not released.
