Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: 31000-31055 Surfbird Way Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, June 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for vehicle fire in the Peninsula Lakes development off of Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to be a Vermeer grinder or mulching machine.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression with an 1½’ fire suppression line with foam and well as gaining access to the interior compartments of the machinery.  Engine #80-3

It appears that the construction equipment was actively being utilized when the operator smelled smoke and identified actual flames coming from the equipment.  An effort was made to quickly extinguisher and relocate the equipment in order to minimize the nature of the incident.
