Nature: Vehicle Accident

On Friday afternoon, June 2, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Harris Teeter (Bay Farm Road) for a vehicle accident.  It was reported to be a multi vehicle chain reaction type collision.

 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

 

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, vehicle fluid and debris recovery, traffic control as the eastbound lanes of John J. Williams Highway were closed for the duration of the incident.

 

It appears that all vehicles were traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway approaching the traffic light when a black Chevrolet Impala struck the rear of a white Honda Accord sedan, which then struck a maroon Dodge Caliber, which hit a black Honda Accord.  The initial three vehicles suffered extensive damage and two occupants were transported to nearby medical facilities by the local emergency medical services provider.

 

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

 

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
