Nature: Marine Fire

Location: Shorts Marine Storage Yard

On Monday evening, May 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a marine fire at the Shorts Marine Storage Yard on Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a working single boat fire that was fully involved.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-3 and 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression efforts, scene preservation, traffic control, water supply, and incident mitigation.

It appears that a Maxuum Marine Unit was fully involved with heavy fire and smoke showing upon arrival of the first engine. Indian River initiated two 1¾ fire suppression lines and actively pursued the extinguishment.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
