Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm

On Tuesday April 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm (AFA) at Building #11 on Windswept Drive within The Peninsula off of Bay Farm Road.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were to evaluate and mitigate the incident to ascertain the cause of the alarm.

It was determined to be a faulty alarm issue.

Illustrated herewith are various incident alert statistics that identifies that the quantity of automatic fire alarms are increasing within the fire district of Indian River.

Since November 2016, the Indian River VFC responded to eighteen such alarms or 8.3% of the incident responses has been automatic fire alarms.

During this same time period, November 2016 thru April 2017, twelve (12) of the eighteen (18) AFAs or 67% of the automatic fire alarms have been within the same residential development.
