Nature: Vehicle Accident Possibly Serious

Early Saturday morning, March 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on River Road in the vicinity of Gull Point. It was reported to be a single vehicle roll-over.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional alerts for response from the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit were communicated.  Aviation units were not available.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, traffic control, and assist with a search for the vehicle occupants. There was a small fire that required the utilization of a fire extinguisher.

It appears that a white Cadillac SRX was traveling west on River Road and left the road for an unknown reason striking an embankment and overturning. All occupants of the vehicle fled the scene prior to arrival of emergency response personnel.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
