On Wednesday morning, November 23rd, the Indian River (80) fire company was alerted for a fire nature unknow and the upgraded with Millsbor0 (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies for a structure fire in the vicinity of Maid Marions Retreat and then identified as 32181 Steele Drive, Sherwood Forest. It was obviously a working fire based upon the billowing black smoke plumes clearly visible. Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Engine #80-5, and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-1 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. The Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the local emergency medical service providers were also included. Emergency response crew assignment included immediate initiation of fire attack lines for propane tank concerns, exposure concerns, and fire suppression items. Other activities includes water supply, manpower pool resources, firefighter rehab, and overall incident mitigation. Crews from Milsboro and Lewes were assigned fire suppression and overhaul assignments as needed. Rehoboth Beach (86) provided an engine company standby for Indian River. It appears that a garage building, a pull behind RV camper, a fifth wheel RV camper, and a Ford Pick Up truck caught fire causing exposure damage to nearby residential buildings and fencing. The fire was heavily involved causing propane tanks to vent. It was reported that the family felines and canines were unaccounted for at the time. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated scene access. The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
