 Apparatus Throw Back – 80 Command Units

Indian River Volunteer Fire Company wishes to highlight and offer historical information regarding our earlier and most current apparatus. The current apparatus highlight will be with Indian River’s Command Units #80-10.

2008 Chevrolet Suburban Incident Command Unit (Duty Officer Vehicle)

This unit is a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 purchased from I.G. Burton Chevrolet in Milford, Delaware.  This unit is equipped with the following equipment:  Whelen Light Package, Opticom traffic emitter, 400 MHz Radio and 800 MHz Radio furnished and installed by Delmarva Communications, V8 MPI Engine, 4-Speed Automatic Transmission, front buckets, AM/FM, CD, Satellite radio, power windows, power door locks, cruise controls, intermittent wipers, air conditioning, SCBA and various hand tools for accessibility reasons. Other specialized equipment includes:  Pelican Computer and Iron Compass Mapping system and On Scene Xplorer Software, Sentralok Knox Box equipment; command operations console; and portable communications devices.

The graphics designed and developed by Fitch Graphics, Inc., of Elkton, Maryland while the lighting package was furnished and installed by Diamond State Ambulance in Newark, Delaware and the custom cabinetry manufactured and installed by Howard McMillen of Millsboro, Delaware.

1999 Chevrolet Suburban Incident Command Unit (Duty Officer Vehicle)

This unit was a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and operated as Indian River's first Incident Command Unit. It was equipped with a full pull-out command center and a Panther 5000 laptop computer. This truck was equipped with:  four wheel drive. V8, 400 MHz, 800 MHz radio, automatic transmission bench seats, AM/FM Cassette Radio, cruise control, intermittent wipers, air conditioning, SCBA and various hand tools.

This unit was retired in July, 2008 and replaced with the new command vehicle highlighted previously. The unit was sold to Coaling Fire Department in Coaling, Alabama.

This unit was purchased new from First State Chevrolet in Georgetown, Delaware with the graphic design being coordinated by Fitch Graphics of Elkton, Maryland.
