Apparatus Throw Back – Chief's Car

Indian River Volunteer Fire Company wishes to highlight and offer historical information regarding our earlier emergency response apparatus. The current apparatus highlight will be with Indian River’s Chief’s Car with identification designation of  #80-15.

New vs. Old.

The new Chief's Vehicle is designated Unit 80-15 and is a 2008 Dodge Charger.

2008 Dodge Charger purchased new from Megee Motors in Georgetown, Delaware included the following equipment:  400 MHz Radio; 800 MHz Radio; Graphics; Whelen Lighting Package - furnished and installed by Delmarva Communications in New Castle, Delaware. Vehicle specifics include: 2.7-Liter V6 DOHC 24-Valve MPI Engine; 4-Speed Automatic Transmission - 3.90 Axle; front buckets, AM/FM, CD, Satellite radio; power windows, power door locks, cruise controls, intermittent wipers, air conditioning.

The former Chief’s Vehicle was a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria - Chief's Vehicle (Retired).

This 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Chief's Car (Retired) was a formerly police cruiser for the County of New Castle and then utilized by Mill Creek Fire Company.  The graphic artwork was completed by Fitch Graphics of Elkton, Maryland.  In March, 2009, this unit was retired from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and transferred to the Georgetown Fire Company as a Chief's Vehicle.  In April, 2011, this unit was permanent retired by the Georgetown Fire Company and transferred to Donovan's Salvage Yard.

The Chief’s vehicle is assigned to the fire chief.
