On Saturday, August 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire incident involving a deep fried turkey cooker and propane burner. Emergency response units included Brush #80-00 from the Oak Orchard area and Tanker 80 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation and suppression if necessary. Brush #80-00 utilized a booster line to resolve the incident. Other units were staged on the hard road surface. It appears that the residential owners were enjoying an outside cooking activity when the propane fueled deep fryer broiled over causing damage to the exterior wooden decking and flooring. Quick thinking of the owners to shut off the propane and utilize baking soap allowed the extinguishment of the incident.
