Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Cheer Center

On Monday, July 25th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire in the Shoppes of Long Neck at the Cheer Center. The complex was filling with a smoke condition and all units were ordered to be evacuated.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility; as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation efforts to identify the source of the issue as well as verifying that evacuation was complete. The Millsboro Fire Company utilized their ladder truck to gain access to the facility’s roof top.

Upon evaluation, it was determined that the air conditioning unit(s) were malfunctioning causing the smoke condition within the complex.

The facility management was apprised to retain the maintenance personnel in order to remedy the issue.
